Beyond an incredible race that is held every February, what is the 26.2 with DONNA? In a month of pink overload, it is important to us that all of you understand who we are, our mission, and where our money goes.
26.2 with DONNA is a private non-profit organization in Northeast Florida producing the only marathon in the U.S. dedicated to breast cancer research and care. Its mission is to passionately produce world class events to raise funds for ground breaking breast cancer research and women living with breast cancer.
Since its launch in 2008, 26.2 with DONNA has contributed $4 million towards its vision to finish breast cancer.
Funds from DONNA helped to develop and maintain the Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Translational Genomics Program. These funds make it possible for the laboratory team to not only conduct state of the art breast cancer research, including the widely publicized Triple Negative Breast Cancer Vaccine Trials, but also provide genomics support for studies in all cancers.
Funds also support The Donna Foundation. Donna Deegan, three-time breast cancer survivor and founder of 26.2 with DONNA, also founded The Donna Foundation in June 2003 to provide temporary financial assistance to women and men diagnosed with breast cancer. In partnership with Catholic Charities, recipients are screened to ensure proper stewardship of contributions. To date, the Foundation has provided financial assistance for the critical needs of more than 8,000 women and men living with breast cancer.
Held annually on the second weekend in February, DONNA Marathon Weekend attracts runners and supporters from all 50 states and 20 countries. In addition to funding breast cancer research and care, DONNA Marathon Weekend drives close to $5 million in economic impact to the community each year.
The 9th Annual DONNA National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer will be held Friday, February 12 – Sunday, February 14, 2016.
