Hi Donna and Amanda,
I wanted to sincerely thank you both for everything on Sunday and everything leading up to that great day. Our students and coaches had the best experience and left feeling so empowered and proud. The race was so well-organized (as always) and the crowd support along the way made our kids feel like rock stars. Many teenagers don’t get this type of support in life, so for them to come out here and feel nothing but love, well, that just gives me goosebumps. We are impacting more and more lives every year with your help!
Here are some of my favorite memories from the day:
This coach dyed his hair bright pink (with a permanent dye!). The night before the race at 10pm, he decided that the first pink wasn’t bright enough, so he went out to the store to buy more and ended up like this. Needless to say, his students love his spirit and he loves everything about supporting the 26.2 With Donna!
This student ran with our poster the entire 13.1 miles! I featured him as Student of the Week during the season, and you can see why! The girl next to him is a Marathon High streaker (all four years of high school), just completing her fourth season with MH and at the Donna!
This student became our 1,000th Marathon High student to cross the finish line of the Donna since we started! Pretty amazing considering I didn’t even know if we’d get one student when I first started this program — let alone 1,200+ now!
Phoebe became our first wheelchair student to complete the race. She doesn’t talk, but her coaches (pushing her here) tell me that she doesn’t the walk breaks…haha!
And of course, you know all about Terrance now. What a wonderful surprise that was! Such an accomplishment for a 17 year old. Everyone at Sandalwood High School and Marathon High is very proud of his hard work.
I could tell you dozens of other stories about the day and teenagers who were out there getting it done and leaving with a newfound sense of accomplishment. Just sit there and let that all sink in because it’s pretty incredible what we are doing together for these kids and our community. There is nothing I believe in more.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love you two!
