Such a full heart. What a day! The wind and rain only seemed to enhance the joy and tears at the finish line. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so much emotion released at a DONNA Marathon. In so many ways, the frustrations of being apart for so long and the need to celebrate, grieve, and support those we love came together for one of the most inspiring races in our 15 years. For much of last 6 miles I ran next to a woman in treatment for stage 4 breast cancer, and the triumph on her face as she crossed the finish line was something that will stay with me forever.

And in a year when the weather made it tough to stand and cheer for hours, our volunteers and neighbors didn’t disappoint. This race never fails to renew my spirit, my belief in love over fear, and my love for this community. Thank you for wrapping your arms around these participants like you do. For showing up and showing out year after year. For many this race is so personal, and you gave them an experience they will always treasure. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful.
